With Malicious Intent

Hardworking New Orleans environmental lawyer Rebecca Boudreaux's life just got substantially more complicated and dangerous. Her public interest law firm plans to file a new case against River Road Recyclers, or Triple R, on behalf of citizens living in the Cancer Alley area of Louisiana.  Rebecca must reveal how the company has doctored and falsified reports submitted to the government and spewed enormous amounts of toxic pollutants daily to the air and water near her clients' homes. Her efforts are hampered when her inside informants keep mysteriously dying, her clients are terrorized, and her key witness is forced to hide in a rundown shack in the bayou until trial begins.  Her own life is at risk when Rebecca collapses in the courtroom and is rushed to the hospital on the first day of trial. Her boss, Joe Cairns, must step in to litigate the case in her place. The drama climaxes as he exposes whether Rebecca's best friend, her steamy new love interest, the directors of the greedy and corrupt "recycling" company, or someone else has been acting . . .

Strictly Liable

Follow the tumultuous legal and emotional challenges of widow and mother of four, Julie Woodruff, who is set up for a crime, thrown into prison, and survives an attempt on her life just because of her job as the public works director of the small Southern California city of Playa Bonita. With the help of her children, she turns the incredible obstacles she faces into a positive result. Experience first hand why Congress needs to change the current federal environmental law that would allow innocent people to go to jail.

TEN STARS!!! "I loved this book. I thought it was brilliant. I loved the fact that the chapters were short, which I feel, keeps you reading. sometimes long chapters can tire you out! It made a great break from all the sci-fi I've been reading lately. I loved the drama and I loved the romance between Rebecca and Wesley. (was not expecting that little twist . . . at the end.)"

"This was a nice quick read. An intriguing and unnerving look into the world of environmental crime. The book starts with Rebecca, a dedicated environmental lawyer, discovering that she has a bleeding stomach ulcer. How unfair to walk around with a stomach ulcer in New Orleans, not allowed to eat all that yummy spicy cajun food!!! After that the pressure on this single hard working woman only gets more and more. This book has everything that a good thriller needs: murder, suspense, twists. Different from what a normally read, but nice for a change."

If you're looking for a legal thriller/murder mystery and/or are an environmental enthusiast, you will thoroughly enjoy this book. It had me hooked from the beginning. I found myself emotionally involved with the characters - whether you loved them or hated them. The legal details throughout give you a better understanding of our laws and regulations concerning the environment (how good or bad they are) - while being entertaining as well. The "waste" incident in the book is similar to what you may read in today's news headlines. I would sometimes have to stop and remind myself this is a novel...not reality. I enjoyed how the story line wound its way through the "mess", the trial and Julie's family. The mixture of the legal aspects, the environmental aspects and even the surprisingly spriritual aspects of the book are a worthwhile read.
